Charlinda Delicat
My mum was nursing my baby brother Woodma who is only 2, when the earthquake hit,” says seven-year-old Charlinda Delicat one of the many children sponsored by ActionAid to survive the devastating earthquake.
“She shouted to a neighbour to save us as dad was out of town. The woman managed to grab Woodma and then helped us to get out but I was really scared and couldn’t stop crying. I wasn’t injured though.
“After we got out we went to church to pray. We were all really frightened. We’re sleeping on the street, buying food and using chlorine to clean the water. All my friends are OK.
Marcel Delicat, Charlinda’s father and a carpenter by trade, said the family can’t go back into the house until a professional has assessed it. “I can’t say it’s safe myself,” he says.
