World Food Day events around the world
ACTIVISTA
ActionAid’s Youth Network - made noise in more than ten countries on World Food Day using plates, cups, spoons and other tools to make leaders listen and to free the hungry billion. The action took place in Denmark, Uganda, Brazil, Sierra Leone, France, The Gambia, Nigeria, UK, Italy, Nepal, Greece, South Africa and Kenya.

AUSTRALIA
Hunger stunt in front of national parliament and a new petition based on the HungerFREE Scorecard Report
BRAZIL
ActionAid Brazil is mobilizing young people in over 15 countries to make a minute of noise against hunger. The event will happen in the nightclubs of the Matrix (Odyssey Theater, Cine Lapa, Choperia Brazooka, Bar da Ladeira, Casa da Matriz, Boteco Salvation, Lane 3 and Drinker Maldita).
Already 350 activists went to the Brazilian Parliament to demand the right to food in the Brazilian Constitution. They handed in a petition with 50 thousand signatures.

DENMARK
World Food Day Dinner Party in front of parliament.
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
In North Kivu over 2000 women took part in a parade to call on the authorities to invest in agriculture, and assist women with their difficulties regarding land access and utilisation.
FRANCE
Eiffel Tower stunt and action sent to thousands of supporters.
GAMBIA
A cross-country caravan stopped in each of Gambia’s six regions, bringing together farmers, activists, officials and local chiefs. A charter of demands was handed to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
GUATEMLA
A demonstration in front of National Congress, distribution of ‘Territory: the way to our roots’, radio spots, right to food report and gathering of activists.
HAITI
Women farmers met with the Minister for Women’s Affairs to discuss rural women’s interests. A massive petition against the promotion of agrofuels in Haiti was handed in to Senators.
ITALY
Activists in Naples will do a flash mob to launch a coffee action to the public.

KENYA
Women farmers in the Coast region will take part in a procession to demand their rights to land and property. Farmers in the North East region will a launch a charter of demands at a rally in Mwingi.
STAND UP and TAKE ACTION CONCERT
On Saturday 17th, top African musicians performed at the Free the Hungry Billion, Stand Up and Take Action concert in Nairobi.
There are launching the HungerFREE CD recorded especially for ActionAid.
LESOTHO
Activities took place in Khukhune in Botha Bothe district as part of the official World Food Day Celebrations.
MALAWI
THE BIG WALK!! The HungerFREE campaign in Malawi is taking the form of a Big Walk bringing to focus issues of women and land. The Coalition of Women Farmers presented their demands when they met with the President at an event in the south of the country and rural women took in the walk to the parliament.
MOZAMBIQUE
Women farmers pushed for access to land and natural resources. They hosted their annual forum and launch a report. Media attention was drawn to the expansion of agrofuel production in Mozambique and the need to protect small farmers.
NETHERLANDS
Supporters took online to call for a new global response to hunger.
NEPAL
Local and national mobilisations took place in Nepal with a massive 20,000 ‘Stand up to Free the Hungry Billion’ event in Kathmandu.
NIGERIA
Local and national farmers rallies and HungerFREE element to the FAO Tele-Food concert.
RWANDA
Free the Hungry Billion campaign event in Karongi district and media work highlighting women’s lack of access to credit.
PAKISTAN
A consultation forum and rally addresseed the issue of the corporatisation of agriculture in the country.
SENEGAL
Women presented a charter of demands to the authorities.
SIERRA LEONE
Candlelit vigil at parliament and symposium of activists.
SOUTH AFRICA
A large stadium event in Northern Cape region.
TANZANIA
Campaigning for a new law to guide agrofuel production in the country.
UGANDA
Public hearings, debates, media and the hand in of a petition putting the drought and food crisis in Uganda in the spotlight.
UNITED KINGDOM
ActionAid supporters targeted Prime Minister Gordon Brown asking that he steps up his game in fighting hunger. They also handed in the HungerFREE Scorecard to the UK Government and embassies from around the world. HungerFREE in the UK

November 16th: World Food Summit
This is when the leaders will finally get the chance to accept the responsibility for the hunger that 30 years of mismanagement has caused. We will be at the summit demanding fair and lasting solutions to hunger.
