Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Didier Awadi (Senegal), Carlou D (Senegal), Professor Jay(Tanzania), Ntsiki Mazwai (South Africa), Kidumu (Burundi), Suzanne Owiyo (Kenya), Idi Achieng (Kenya) and Neema Ntalel (Kenya) among others, converged on Nairobi to make this a night to remember.

“This world produces enough to meet all our needs, but not our greed. Greed has left 1 billion people hungry. Join the fight against global hunger, fight greed” said Kidumu.

The artists have recorded songs for a HungerFREE album which is a tribute to the millions of poor and hungry people whose basic right to food and freedom from hunger is daily threatened by gender based violence, conflict, greed and inappropriate policies.

The CD of this collective contribution by Africa’s top talent was launched at the event.

With 10 million people facing hunger in Kenya the need for structural change is urgent, “in Africa we now grow what we do not eat and eat what we do not grow. To end hunger we must grow and consume our own food,” demanded Neema.

The concert was organized by anti-poverty campaigners ActionAid, Acord, Global Call to Action Against Poverty(Kenya) and UN millennium Campaign. They are involving artists to support citizen efforts to hold their governments to account for the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals.
